Ism has four properties:

A) I was eating too much chocolate
B) My teeth began aching.
C) My Dentist gave me a root canal.
I = has a certain status and can be used in a set way.
Status = what is the word doing in the sentence.
There are three types of status:
1) Doer - When someone does something, they are the doer, but sometimes we get extra information.
2) Detail - That 'extra information'

Two Kinds of Questions need to be asked:
Doer status : There's a question about Doer i.e who ate? Husna ate.
Detail status : There's a question about Details i.e What does your dad teach you? My Dad teaches Arabic.

Types of Family
A) Ism-un – A word that can be a person, place, thing, idea, adjective, adverb and more. i.e. Husna, lamp, beautiful.
B) F’il-un- (Verbs) A word that is past tense, present tense or future tense. If it has a tense, it is a F’il. i.e. travelled, writing.
C) Harf-un- (Preposition) A word that makes no sense unless another word comes after. i.e. to, a, the

Three Kinds of Words in Arabic
- All of language is made up of letters.
- Letters make words. Words make sentences. Sentences make paragraphs.
- The smallest aspect of these is the letters which make up words.
- When you are reading a word in the Qur’an or any word in Arabic for that matter, it belongs to one of three families.
- There are three kinds of words or types of families.
